Nishino Kana emerged as the winner from among 40,000 participants of the Miss Phoenix Audition held by Sony in 2005. She then signed with Sony Music Entertainment and started vocal training. In early 2008, she made her major debut with "I". After two unsuccessful singles, Nishino was chosen to sing the second ending theme for the anime SOUL EATER. The song, "Style", was released as her third single and was her highest selling single in 2008 due to the popularity of the anime series. However, her career really took off in 2009 with a change in music style, and her fifth single "Tookutemo" feat. WISE, reaching #40 on the Oricon charts even without a tie-in. Three months later, Nishino released "Kimi ni Aitakunaru Kara" This single became her first to enter the top 30 weekly of Oricon. Following the success of "Kimi ni Aitakunaru Kara", her debut album LOVE one was released three weeks later featuring all six of her singles. LOVE one debuted at #4 on the weekly charts and enjoyed a long run on the charts, jetting Nishino to stardom. In October 2009, Nishino released her seventh single "Motto...". The title track was used as a commercial song for Recochoku and the single peaked at #6 on the weekly Oricon charts. Two month later she released her eighth single "Dear.../MAYBE". This single continued her Top-10 run. "Dear..." was the official song for the DoCoMo's Gun Ballet Judensei '09-'10 while "MAYBE" was used as the commercial song for Maybelline New York's "Express Magnum Volume", in which she starred. In February 2010 Nishino released "Best Friend", her ninth single. The title track was used as the official song for DoCoMo's Ganbare Jukensei '09-'10 CM campaign.
