Formed in 1991 and active at the peak of Shibuya-kei's popularity, Love Tambourines mixed the sexed up appeal of vocalist Ellie with smooth R&B grooves during a short but exhilarating ride. After gigging for several years, primarily in the fertile Shimokitazawa scene, the five member group signed with indie label Crue-L and released their first single, "Cherish our Love", in 1993. The band went on to release three more singles of original music, along with several remixes and compilation appearances, before dropping their only full-length, entitled Alive, in 1994. Alive shifted over 100,000 units, making it one of the more successful independent releases of the year. The future looked promising for the group, but soon after the release of the album, Ellie disbanded the group abruptly. The same year also saw her divorce from guitarist Keiichi Saito, and her subsequent relocation to Bali, where she spent approximately a year. After Bali, Ellie returned to Japan, releasing a single followed up by the album Bitch in Zion. She remains active in the industry, occasionally guesting on releases by other artists, and in late 2004, the band's first two singles were remastered and released as Love Parade, creating a buzz among fans and serving as a reminder of a talented band that was active in an epochal period in Japanese music.
