Pupa is the brainchild of former Yellow Magic Orchestra member Yukihiro Takahashi, who currently also fronts the band Sketch Show with former YMO cohort Haruomi Hosono.  Never veering far from Takahashi's signature electronica-influenced pop, the band provides smooth tone canvas upon which lead vocalist Tomoya Harada layers her sophisticated vocals.  Takahashi often takes his own turn at the mic, offering up his uniqely smooth, always identifiable vocal style.  Pupa lyrics are a mix of mostly Japanese and English, and sometimes stray off into other languages as well, but nothing ever feels forced, and the music on their debut floating pupa makes the perfect soundtrack for a lazy Tokyo Sunday in a clean, modern cafe.  The band's clothing, all designed by Takahashi, is also a big part of the band's image, with a military feel that wouldn't have been out of place on a '70s YMO record jacket.
