Nippop News : Sudo Genki's WORLD ORDER kicks off a global IT Conference (2011.09.10)
10,000 welcome with cheers
On July 11th, the "WORLD ORDER," a dance troupe helmed by Genki Sudo, the former mixed martial artist and kick-boxer known for his unorthodox fighting style, became the opening act in the worldwide IT industry event, Worldwide Partner Conference 2011, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, thrilling an audience of approximately 14,000 with their remarkable performance art.
The Worldwide Partner Conference is annually run by Microsoft Corporation and is the IT industry's leading event, pulling in more than 10,000 Microsoft affiliates from all over the world, including its partner companies. This year, the event was held on a grand scale from July 10th through July 14th.
Prior to the event, WORLD ORDER had been handpicked from a pool of performers to perform as the opening act at the funeral service of Michael Jackson, held on the main stage of the Staples Center, the iconic venue in Los Angeles.
Appearing in a suit, Sudo kicked off the IT conference with a speech he delivered in fluent English, conveying the tragedy of the many lives lost to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, quietly affirming, "Japan is on the road to recovery." Moments later, a screen began to show the WORLD ORDER’s promotional video, and the troupe appeared on stage, going on to spark off loud cheers and applause with their original performance art.
WORLD ORDER is a seven-person dance performance unit, formed by Sudo with professional male dancers. Sudo is also directly involved in the Creation of the group’s music, working in cooperation with top-line artists to write the lyrics, compose the music, and even bring to bear his talent as the vocalist himself. The troupe’s intricate choreography has the precision of a machine and is said to be directed by Sudo himself, who helps shape ideas proposed by other members of the group.
The high-quality promotional video was introduced via YouTube, and it features a truly surprising, one-of-a-kind performance, registering a grand total of 5,800,000 views. The troupe has also been covered by a French television program, a sign that their first foray overseas has been met with great success.
